A digital twin of an offshore wind farm

For my client, a utility provider (21,000 employees, 17 billion USD revenue), I built a digital twin to get a better understanding of wind farm operations and maintenance needs for contract negotiations with a service provider. My simulation model allowed us to analyze profitability, operating costs, and service levels for scenarios featuring boats, helicopters, and maintenance crews.

Optimized A/B-testing for marketing science

My client (Bain & Company, management consulting, USA, 19,000 employees, 6 billion USD revenue) had built an initial mathematical optimization model to form control and test groups out of a population that lacked several capabilities and could have performed better under certain conditions. I took over the model’s development and turned it into a reliable tool capable of handling a wide range of use cases. I also built a Tabu search heuristic for particularly complex cases. We made the tool available to external and internal end users as a web app using the Dash library.

Sales territory optimization

I advised a medical device producer (4,000 employees, 1.2 billion USD revenue) on their new sales territories after a merger. I used historical sales volume data and two algorithms integrated into an easy-to-use spreadsheet. My client used the initial solution as a starting point and, despite the tool being meant for a one-time analysis, kept using it when changes came up.

Supply chain network design optimization

I built a mathematical optimization model and dashboard to evaluate the production footprint of a food producer (3,500 employees, 1.4 billion USD revenue) to consolidate their network and compete with low-cost vendors. Management ended up shutting down 10 of the existing 13 sites.

Supply chain network design optimization

I built a mathematical optimization model to optimize my client’s network design, considering several distribution channels (brick-and-mortar business, e-commerce, dropshipping, etc.) and a Tableau dashboard to visualize the solutions and KPIs (speed-to-customer, operating costs, capital expenditures, etc.). Finally, management implemented a strategy to extend specific stores with picking and packing areas to achieve a high service level for their e-commerce business.

Summary

I help businesses make better decisions by leveraging advanced analytics. I have a Ph.D. in operations research and experience solving challenging business problems in manufacturing, the food industry, retail, and the air-traffic industry.
