The project mainly involved maintaining the Linux infrastructure (RedHat) based on RedHat OpenShift and standardized virtual machines. This included applying patches and updates, as well as troubleshooting malfunctions. This was done natively under Linux on the command line, as well as using the UrbanCode Deploy tool.
Ansible was also used for the installation and configuration management of the containers and virtual machines to be maintained.
A large number of outdated Tomcat and Jira installations were manually upgraded to more current versions. These were managed in both a dedicated development and production environment.
This was directed by tickets in the Jira ticketing system, which were prioritized and handled independently. In addition, regular (sometimes monthly) releases for critical public enterprise software (portals) were conducted in predefined maintenance windows (change management), sometimes in the evenings, at night, and on weekends.

The subproject focused on possible programming via the so-called air interface (OTA - Over the Air).
For this, a custom protocol had to be developed to communicate with the pagers. This involved managing and coordinating the necessary developers as well as creating the technical prerequisites for sending the OTA controls.

Summary

I have had professional IT experience since 1991 (and with computers in general since 1982). After a few years as an employed system engineer at an IT systems integrator, I have been working full time as a freelancer/self-employed since 2004.

I have highly developed skills in Windows (from Windows 3.1 onwards) and Linux (in recent years focused on Debian or Ubuntu and derivatives, but also RedHat, CentOS, and to a lesser extent SLES). In various data centers, I mainly built the server and client infrastructure and provided user support when needed. I also gained a lot of experience with various tools (e.g., ticket systems) and processes (e.g., ITIL) of modern IT.

Other focus areas are monitoring (including visualizations; since 1999) of system environments mostly with Nagios, checkmk and Icinga (1 and 2), as well as virtualization (various vendors and solutions – including VMWare, Proxmox). I especially enjoy working with alternative, possibly new to me, heterogeneous environments.
