ATRO Medical's core business is the design and holding the regulatory dossier for the meniscus prothesis and successful outsource manufacturing and clinical studies.
- Built the company from scratch, raised €6,3M Venture Capital, obtained a €5,0M innovation credit of the Dutch Government (Ministry of Economic Affairs) plus several grants for in total €3,6M (including the €2,5M EIC accelerator grant)
- ATRO Medical has become ISO 13485 certified and has obtained FDA Breakthrough designation in the US for its meniscus replacement device
- Company completed the enrolment for a second clinical study in Dec 2022
- ATRO Medical was Medtech Innovator Finalist in 2019 and obtained the $50k in cash Johnson&Johnson QuickFire Award in 2022
I left the company with an effective start-up team and professional organization to produce and clinical test the device. Build relations with strategics, consultants and investment funds to scale the business.

Providing leadership in preparing Venture and M&A deals. Leading strategic planning for growth of the global product portfolio of a €140M business.
- Successful leading the preparation of acquisitions at Royal DSM (€10B annual turnover)
- Set a company-wide example for a 5-days comprehensive due diligence and became Integration lead for the Business and RT&D work stream of a US acquisition
- Creating hands-on experience in valuation, M&A processes, US business environment and deal making. It resulted in one large US based acquisition (US$ 360M) and 3 venture investments
- Support and drive the various Business Units of DSM Biomedical materials in creating Strategic marketing plans for a wide range of products and Medical Device industry. It widely covered the medical device areas. e.g., Cardiovascular, Orthopedic Devices, Ophthalmic and General surgery
I left DSM with several patent licenses and an initial investment of €600k by DSM Venturing to build the ATRO Medical start-up.

- Built and executed a business plan for Genetic profiling for weight management

- Initiate a close collaboration with a spin-out of Philips
I left as the regulatory perspective for genetic profile was extremely uncertain and internal funding stopped with the 2008 financial crisis. I was invited by the Business unit Biomedical materials in a new role as Strategy Director.

Leadership role in developing new products for the food ingredient market. Budget and Sales responsibility in creating new products emerging form R&D and implemented/integrate them in the running sales organization.
- Leading the business team that successful introduced a game-changing genetically engineered biotech product in the B2B Market
- Good combination of Team building, B2B Marketing and managing Sales, R&D, Technical Support, Production, IP and Regulatory Approvals on a global scale
- I led the global (EU, America's and Asia) launch within 6 months
- This product is now sold world-wide in the food industry. It's biggest success is in China, Eastern Europe and South America
- Business plan fully realized in 5 years after launch with high margin product and is still (last update 2020) growing
I moved to the new started business group Innovation to become Program director of a new initiative, Personalized Nutrition.

- Successfully developed an alternative process for producing vitamin B12
- Developed a new class of products based on a protein digesting enzyme
- Transformed several basic and applied biotechnology molecules into commercial processes. These products found their application in cosmetics, crop-protection, beer and dairy industry
I was interested in the B2B management role and internally promoted to the Business Manager role, with the key task of transforming ideas into commercially viable products.

Managing a portfolio of biotechnology driven product developments for the Unilever food and cosmetics business groups.
- A mix of fundamental research supporting the existing business in enzymes, yeast extracts and flavouring and new products
- One product for mal-odor treatment reached the cosmetic market after I left
I left Unilever when the biotechnology was not a core business anymore and the associated business groups were devested early 1997.
