University Professor

After a 30-year career in biological research and teaching at the University of Georgia, I am eager to contribute my strong communication skills, extensive editorial experience, and a deep understanding of data and language.

Throughout my career as a university professor, a strong emphasis has been on effective communication of complex ideas and data. I have taught several different undergraduate and graduate courses in the biological and data sciences and successfully mentored numerous graduate students in research and data analysis, with a strong emphasis on developing effective written and verbal communication skills. My experience as a writer is demonstrated by my publication record of over 130 scientific journal papers and 12 book chapters, all of which required meticulous attention to detail, clarity, and precision in written communication.

In addition, my extensive background as a peer-reviewer (for nearly 100 different biological sciences journals) and as an academic editor (for seven different journals) has provided me with a deep understanding of proofreading, editing, and ensuring the accuracy and clarity of written content. This role required me to evaluate and refine the work of others, a task directly relevant to training AI language models.

I am an active user of generative AI tools, applying them almost daily in professional and personal contexts. This hands-on experience has given me some insight into how AI models interact with users and how prompt crafting influences responses and outcomes.
