  • Employed by Mercedes Benz Technology Group in Stuttgart, Germany as a Cost Engineer.
  • My responsibilities included researching and costing new developments in alternative drive train components and systems. This involves Battery charging equipment for private and commercial usage and HV power systems, Lithium Battery Packs, BMS controllers, Fuel Cell systems, etc.
  • In addition I was responsible for a project to establish the "greenfield" costs of establishing a Plastic Chroming facility and an appropriate calculation program.
  • My last project was working to provide cost analysis of electronic parts and sensors used by Mercedes and / or it’s competitors (Benchmarking) for use by the purchasing department in negotiations with suppliers and also by the Financial Controllers to put target values into future projects.
  • This work involved physical teardowns of the components, analysis of materials used, production technologies used in the manufacture and assembly techniques utilised. Parts which I evaluated ranged from Alternators to Loudspeakers to Body Control units to NOx Sensors, etc.
  • My previous responsibility was working on a project to relocate a complete vehicle production line from Argentina to Russia. My area of responsibility covered all electric and electronic components plus the complete interior controls and equipment. In addition I had special responsibility for the fuel tank and lighting systems. I provided specialist advice and support to the purchasing department in regard to part pricing and also tooling costs. Visits to suppliers to evaluate tool and assembly equipment condition were also part of my duties as were evaluation of new suppliers and / or new production facilities involved in the relocation of production components to Russia and other former eastern bloc countries.
