- The aim of the project was to study the evolutionary development of Escherichia coli strains during colonization of the mouse intestine. By performing genomic analyses of evolved populations, adaptive mutations were identified and linked to stress factors to which the strains were exposed in the specific environment. This work provides important insights into how evolutionary processes transform microbial coexistence into ecological divergence.

- In this project, we performed a multidisciplinary approach with a wide range of biochemical and biophysical techniques. The use of the innovative, cutting-edge CRISPR-Cas9 technique enabled the successful creation of a series of mutants. This hands-on experience with genetic manipulation and microbial growth assays has strengthened the understanding of genetic variations and their effects on microbial metabolic pathways. The research may also contribute to more applied areas in the future, such as the treatment of human and infectious diseases.
