Under direction of a more senior engineer/scientist, plan, perform research, design and development of small/medium engineering projects and/or part of large projects.
Assignments typically include equipment design and development; test of materials; preparation of specifications; coordination of manpower required to manufacture, install and test projects; responsible for meeting completion dates, technical specifications and cost constraints.
Plan a small project from inception to completion and bring it to operating status.
Work involves a variety of standard features and engineering techniques.
Research and propose solutions to engineering problems.
Independently evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, criteria to assignments which have clear and specified objectives.
Serve on safety panels/review committees to audit the documentation provided for other project installations along with associated engineering analysis, as assigned.
Review and approve work before hardware and financial commitments are made to ensure conformance to specifications and cost and time constraints.
Provide technical directions to draftsman, designers, engineering associates, technicians, or less senior engineers as assigned to specific projects.
Fabricate ceramic nanofibers and characterize them using nano-indentation, AFM, SEM.
Perform engineering stress analysis and simulation work on materials such as ceramic nanofibers, graphite, titanium alloys, iron based alloys.
Develop material and damage models for different materials and use them in finite element analysis to predict material failure.
