I began my professional career in 2013 after completing my Diploma in Drafting, joining Dynamic Technologies as my first employer. Under the mentorship of a senior Mechanical Engineer, I acquired extensive hands-on experience across sheet metal fabrication, piping systems, and steel structural construction. During this period, I contributed to numerous industrial projects, including the design of petroleum fuel transport tanks, cement bulk carriers, storage silos, and batching plants. A particularly significant assignment involved leading both the design and on-site installation of an 80-meter belt conveyor at a biomass plant in Mahiyangana, which provided me with early exposure to managing large-scale projects from concept to commissioning.
Building on this experience, I moved to Walkers CML, where I was involved in several technically complex projects. I contributed to the design of Sri Lanka’s first hydraulic ship lift platform and participated in the development of vessels, including a tugboat, barge, and passenger catamaran, for a proposed canal transport project linking Wellawatta to Diyatha Uyana. These projects allowed me to broaden my expertise into marine engineering and apply multidisciplinary design solutions across diverse sectors.
To gain international experience, I worked remotely for a German kitchen design company. I independently handled client projects, deepened my knowledge of European design standards, and streamlined global project delivery. Additionally, I improved my German language proficiency, achieving B1 certification.
Since then, I have been employed at LTL Transformers for over six years, specializing in transformer design for distribution, solar substations, furnace applications, and carbon-neutral amorphous technologies. Among my key achievements is the full development of a 6.3 MVA solar substation, where I successfully engineered the integration of the transformer, RMU, low-voltage panels, and all auxiliary equipment into a compact 20' x 8' x 9' containerized solution — requiring meticulous planning, space optimization, and cross-functional collaboration. I have also designed a 1.2 MVA transformer for a mining application in Australia, further expanding my exposure to export projects and international client collaboration.
Alongside my core design work, I have continuously pursued technical excellence. As a Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) with over 12 years of industry experience, I possess a strong foundation in 3D design, modeling, and process optimization. One of my most impactful contributions has been the automation of CAD drafting processes using DriveWorks, reducing tasks that previously took two weeks to approximately 20 minutes. Furthermore, I have developed advanced CAD automation tools using the SolidWorks API with C#, allowing me to create customized design automation solutions that significantly streamline complex design tasks and improve efficiency.
In addition, I have a growing passion for software development and automation. I have led several CAD automation and API integration projects, while currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology to further enhance my programming expertise. My focus areas include CAD automation, software development, C# programming, and process optimization, with a strong motivation to continuously advance my skill set and contribute to technology-driven innovations across industries.
