Student research assistant

Fraunhofer Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Techniques (FHR)

  • Developed the design of UWB metamaterial-based radiation absorbent material (RAM) for classified applications.
  • Tasked with achieving the smallest possible radar cross-section (RCS) with an oblique incident angle and the smallest possible metamaterial thickness using various methodologies such as absorption of electromagnetic waves and conversion to heat, space cancellation of impinged fields, redirection and/or dispersion of electromagnetic scattered fields.
  • Used Ansys HFSS and CST to create a design and test the metamaterial using techniques such as unit cell analysis (infinite periodic structure) and array simulation.
  • Performed testing with reference and RAM in an empty chamber at various incident angles; analyzed results to compare simulated and fabricated design results (scattering response and RCS in oblique incident angle) using Python and MATLAB.
