Solution Architect / Project Manager

Deutscher Fußball-Bund (DFB)

  • The DFB launched a strategic infrastructure change to migrate its JFrog Artifactory repository from an outdated on-premises setup to a cloud-based SaaS instance. This migration was part of a broader DevOps modernization strategy to improve scalability, maintenance, and CI/CD pipeline integration.
  • Under tight deadlines and with many dependencies, the project required precise coordination between business, technical, and security teams to ensure continuity, compliance, and effective knowledge transfer.
  • A key focus was researching and selecting security tools like Software Composition Analysis (SCA) and Static Application Security Testing (SAST) for daily operations.
  • Project responsibility: end-to-end ownership of the project life cycle—from scope definition to completion—aligned with the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Stakeholder coordination: close collaboration with platform teams, IT leaders, and external vendors to plan and execute a seamless migration.
  • Agile delivery: applied SAFe principles and structured sprint work for incremental value delivery.
  • Created a full migration roadmap with clear milestones (execution & control).
  • Monitored the entire lifecycle: onboarding, repository migration, permission replication, and system testing (execution & control).
  • Visualized the architecture (PlantUML, Gliffy) and documented details in Confluence (execution & control).
  • Regular status reports and blocker communication at the leadership level (reporting & communication).
  • Delivered complete post-migration documentation and led knowledge transfer sessions (reporting & communication).
  • Results & impact: successful, on-time, on-budget migration of the DFB’s JFrog Artifactory without service interruptions.
  • Results & impact: improved system reliability, performance, and scalability by switching to a SaaS solution.
  • Results & impact: optimized DevOps workflows and developer experience by integrating the new Artifactory into GitLab pipelines.
  • Results & impact: positive stakeholder feedback for clear communication, goal focus, and professional project execution.
  • Results & impact: continuous security scans with integrated JFrog SCA and SAST tools, boosting code quality and risk reduction.
  • My role: I combined strategic delivery management with technical implementation skills to enable a sensitive DevOps migration, giving the DFB development teams more speed, security, and resilience.
  • Technology stack: JFrog Artifactory (On-prem & SaaS), GitLab, Jira, Confluence, PlantUML, Gliffy, SAFe, SCRUM, Software Composition Analysis (SCA), Static Application Security Testing (SAST).
