Description
In this role, you will be responsible for maximizing the competitive impact and business relevancy of a patent portfolio, defining a portfolio strategy in alignment with a business unit strategy. In particular you will connect the innovation product portfolio in terms of business revenues and growth ambition with the patent portfolio and competitive landscape, drive in alignment with business prioritization from an IP standpoint (where to play) and a high level road-map (how to win) to maximize the value of the Innovation and protect growth. You will be
accountable for a successful delivery of the strategy across the whole patent portfolio life-cycle. You will manage and influence stakeholders in setting the direction, be the key contact at the business executive level and leverage the IP insights to inform the business strategy.
- Accountable for the successful delivery of an IP strategy against legal, business and technical KPIs in alignment with priorities set by the Business Unit
- Define with peers relevant corporate KPIs for patent portfolios and map BU-relevant portfolio as per KPIs and business critical innovation domains
- Analyze IP Landscape trends in the key business areas and leverage monitoring of the landscape with innovation community to influence the IP & business strategy accordingly
- Set and review at defined frequency IP strategic road-maps based on business ambition, innovation streams, competitive landscape and third party collaborations for each innovation domain
- Set up and ensure implementation of patent life-cycle management with prioritization aligned with product life-cycle management (including protection planning and enforcement).
Requirements
- PhD or MSc in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field, Patent Attorney with 15year+ as in house IP counsel with strong connection with business stakeholders
- Track record of strategic thinking and strong business acumen acquired through a variety of experiences and roles in industry
- Extensive track record of cross-functional team work
- Excellent communication skills across all levels, ability to translate complex content into contextually meaningful messages with a business perspective & terms for executive audiences
- Ability to influence and build trust-based working relationships across the organization and with stakeholders
- Excellent analytical capabilities, analysis complex business environments, identify strategic business opportunities and turning them into tangible & scalable value
