To efficiently carry out development projects, our client, a commercial vehicle manufacturer, is implementing an organizational transformation process. Based on the scaled agile framework (SAFe®), the role of a Release Train Engineer (RTE) is to be filled. Within the scope of the FOTA (Feature Over The Air) project, various development teams are combined into a VCT (Value Creation Train). The FOTA VCT is organized by a so-called triad. The “triad” consists of a Product Manager (PM), a System Architect (Sys.-Arch.) and an RTE (Release Train Engineer).
The RTE is primarily responsible for conducting the ART events and processes (in the sense of SAFe®) and for supporting the teams in delivering results; the RTE acts as a servant leader and coaches managers, teams and Scrum Masters in the new processes and mindsets; the RTE assists in tailoring SAFe® to the needs of the organization, standardizes and documents practices.
- Conduct backlog refinement meetings to clarify necessary work packages for implementing so-called "Capabilities"
- Prepare and facilitate status sync/VCT meetings together with the PM and the System Architect. These meetings serve for weekly alignment of topics between the PO teams, PM and System Architect
- Guide Scrum Masters of the PO teams and conduct regular coordination meetings with the Scrum Masters, e.g. with the aim of responding to impediments in the teams in a timely manner and resolving them
- Support System Architects in conducting regularly scheduled architecture/concept meetings so that all members of the PO teams and relevant stakeholders are informed about important architecture topics/concepts
- Responsible for planning, moderating and facilitating PI Plannings
- Prepare and conduct RTE retros, reviews and demos as part of the SAFe® events with the stakeholders
- Responsible for maintaining the Jira ticket content and providing information on Confluence
- Create an overview/a plan of time-dependent work packages/Capabilities (e.g. Gantt chart).
