Candidates work for a telecommunications provider in the deployment area. This involves building the passive infrastructure. The team is responsible for finding an antenna site—usually on a building's roof—in predefined search circles, and then installing the antenna mast and antennas on that roof. Antennas are connected to power and fiber optics. Usually, power in the building’s basement is connected at the meter, and the fiber is connected to the fiber network. We work with so-called infrastructure partners, both regional and national. One partner is responsible for identifying suitable antenna sites and signing the lease agreements. Other partners handle the necessary permits, install the antennas on the roof, and connect the fiber in the basement to the fiber network. The search circles where sites are located are defined by Rakuten.
Rakuten is responsible for the entire network, while the provider manages the local and national infrastructure partners. This means the provider must sign contracts with these partners and manage them to ensure they deliver the lease agreements and build the antenna sites on the roof within the agreed timeframe. Management includes ensuring weekly reporting, setting up an early warning system, building cooperation and trust with the partner, pushing partners as needed, and developing measures to address underperformance. Daily coordination with other teams—such as the planning team and the leasing team—is also essential.
