The sought-after professionals work at a telecommunications provider in the deployment department. This role involves building the passive infrastructure. The department is responsible for ensuring that, within specified search areas, an antenna site—usually on the roof of a building—is identified and that an antenna mast and antennas are then installed on that roof. The antennas are connected to power and fiber optic cables. Typically, power is connected to the meter in the building's basement, and the fiber is connected to the fiber network.
For this purpose, we work with so-called infrastructure partners, in this case regional and national infrastructure partners. One partner is responsible for identifying the respective antenna sites and signing the relevant lease agreements. Other partners are responsible for obtaining the necessary permits, installing the antennas on the roof, and connecting the fiber in the basement to the fiber network. The search areas in which the sites must be located are defined by Rakuten.
Rakuten is responsible for the entire network, while the provider is in charge of the overall management of the local and national infrastructure partners. This means the provider must, of course, conclude contracts with such partners and then manage them so that they deliver the respective lease agreements or build the corresponding antenna sites on the roof within the contractually agreed time. Management includes ensuring weekly reporting, establishing an early warning system, fostering cooperation and trust with partners, pushing partners, and developing measures for underperformance. In addition, daily coordination with other teams, such as the planning team and the lease agreement team, is a matter of course.
